Shearwater Energy selects NuScale Power’s Small Modular technology for SMR wind-hybrid energy project

Shearwater and Nuscale sign a Memorandum of Understanding to investigate project

Shearwater Energy Ltd., a United Kingdom-based hybrid clean energy company, is developing a wind-SMR (Small Modular Reactor) and hydrogen production hybrid energy project in North Wales. The project would provide 3 GWe of zero-carbon energy and is also expected to produce over 3 million kilograms of green hydrogen per year for use by the UK’s transport sector, ensuring full utilization of the energy produced. Shearwater has also submitted an outline proposal to the British Government and the devolved governments of Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, all of whom stand to derive considerable economic benefits in connection with the proposed project.

Crowcon innovates again: Meet the next generation of flammable gas detection.

Crowcon Detection Instruments Ltd., the Abingdon-based manufacturers of gas detection equipment, has unveiled an important innovation in fixed gas detection with the launch of the world’s first fixed detector with a Molecular Property Spectrometer ™ (MPS™) sensor.

The company has just added the Nevada Nanotech MPS™ sensor to its Xgard Bright fixed gas monitor, which is set to drive up standards in gas detection and safety, while driving down the cost of ownership.

What is MPS™ and how is it innovative?

Developed by of NevadaNano, the MPS™ sensors represent the new generation of flammable gas detectors. MPS™ can detect up to 15 flammable gases (further gas species being characterised) at once, quickly and to a very high degree of accuracy.

The family is growing with the new MX 16 and the new Easy Duo solution

When you require gas detection that’s easy and simple to install and operate, Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection has you covered.

We understand the day-to-day dangers that can arise when using gases such as Oxygen (O2) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in medical and food & beverage applications, and the difficulties these gases present when ensuring safety in your working environment.

We are proud to announce the launch our new ‘Easy Duo’ detector and controller combo. This cost-effective package provides our latest innovative controller, the MX 16, with our renowned OLCT 10N gas detector to ensure a complete gas detection solution that’s been designed with ease of use and installation in mind.

Non-Metallic Cable Gland Pots

Matt Ogden, Cable Gland Product Specialist at Hawke International, the leading manufacturer of glands for harsh and hazardous environments, discusses the limitations of using glands with metallic compound pots, and the benefits delivered by transparent, non-metallic alternatives.

In hazardous environments, every item of equipment – no matter how small – must successfully play its part. This absolutely includes cable glands, tasked with protecting extremely expensive machinery. But cable gland strategies are too often overlooked.

SICK’s ‘Sceptre’ Crowns Safety System King of the Active/Passives

With the innovation of its Sceptre high-performance prism optic reflector, SICK has extended the range of its deTem 4 A/P multiple light beam system to eight metres, the longest ever available for an active/passive safety device, suitable for applications up to SIL3 / PLe.

The extra-rugged and compact SICK deTem 4 A/P safety light beam system offers wide flexibility to install safe access protection with entry/exit monitoring (muting) in production and logistics environments. With sender and receiver integrated into the active device, SICK deTem 4 A/P minimises wiring and helps achieve compact machine designs. With integrated muting functions there is no need for an external module and additional wiring effort.

Water jetting training goes up a level

The first competency qualification for water jetting has been launched in a move the Water Jetting Association describes as a game changer.

The new Level 2 Water Jetting Technician Certificate is accredited by the Awarding Body for the Built Environment (ABBE) and regulated by Ofqual.

It has been created by the Water Jetting Association (WJA), the member organisation for the UK water jetting industry, to support the upskilling of operatives, improving productivity and safety.

John Jones, Vice-President of the WJA and chairman of its Training and Safety Committee, said: “Our new level 2 qualification automatically qualifies the holder for a CSCS card.
