Flexible Busbar Enclosure for Zone 1 Hazardous Areas

Abtech have launched a high current enclosure that can carry up to 3kA and certified for use in areas in areas where potentially explosive gasses or dust are present.

The SX Busbar is the latest addition to Abtech range of enclosures for high current applications. Gareth Bruce, Marketing Manager for explains the concept behind the design “Our customers have been asking us for an enclosure that could accommodate a both wide variety of cable configurations and to allow the cable layout to be reconfigured if needed. Cable used for high current is often inflexible with restricted bending radii, so the design has to provide flexibility without bending the cables.” He continues “as such we developed the SX with a series of tiered busbars that allow unrestricted access and flexibility for installation”.

TEC motor availability helps London hospital avoid an emergency

When Wilson Fan Pumps and Motors Group in Mitcham, South London required a large ATEX motor for a very important client who was facing a pending emergency, it placed a call through to TEC Electric Motors in Worcestershire and found the perfect solution.

Wilson Fan Pumps and Motors Group regularly works with one of the largest hospitals in London, supplying, fitting and maintaining electric equipment of all kinds. Due to the life-saving work that goes on there, Wilson’s always assigns a high importance to any contact with its engineers and estate staff and will go the extra mile when required.

Glamox supplies energy efficient LED lighting to RRS Sir David Attenborough

LED lighting specialist Glamox has supplied energy efficient LED lighting to the polar research vessel, RRS Sir David Attenborough.

According to the vessel’s operator, British Antarctic Survey (BAS), RRS Sir David Attenborough is one of the most advanced polar research vessels in the world and will play an important role in improving our knowledge of the key polar atmospheric and oceanic processes, which are critical for regulating the Earth’s climate. It will also enhance our knowledge of the Southern Ocean ecosystem, essential for the conservation and management of Antarctica’s species and biological resources.

Q-Ball E – maximum venting effectiveness and minimum weight

As a pioneer in developing systems for flameless explosion venting REMBE GmbH Safety + Control has fundamentally changed the world of explosion protection already in the eighties. With Q-Ball E the German engineers are now presenting a new development, which possesses the potential to revolutionise flameless explosion venting once again.

This is because the Q-Ball E is going to set a new benchmark in venting effectiveness and weight. Primarily designed for elevators, the principle of contour parallel venting is taking effect on the Q-Ball E. A maximum venting effectiveness is guaranteed whereas the required vent area simultaneously is reduced to a minimum.

Ametek Land Gas And Dust Monitors Help Jeld-Wen Achieve Emissions Compliance

JELD-WEN has implemented AMETEK Land’s flue gas analysers and opacity and dust monitors at its door manufacturing facility in Penrith, United Kingdom, to help achieve emissions compliance.

JELD-WEN is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of windows and doors with operations in 20 countries, including five factories in the UK that manufacture timber windows and interior and exterior doors. The company is seen as a world leader in manufacturing energy efficient products and upholds high standards when it comes to sustainability. JELD-WEN’s door manufacturing facility in Penrith produces 35,000 timber and veneered doors every week, and as a result produces a large amount of wood waste.

Gas detection: unlocking compliance insights the smart way

Portable gas detection equipment needs to work faultlessly and in conjunction with safety best practice. Lives depend on it. But, faced with many daily demands on a safety manager’s time, maintaining compliance across a fleet of equipment is a constant challenge. Matt DeLorenzo, Business Director for Safety io (an MSA Safety Company subsidiary), explains how the Grid Fleet Manager – software service for managing fleets of portable gas detectors – helps to ensure compliance through a proactive safety approach.

If there’s one pressure that unites every safety manager in the industry, it’s battling to keep multiple plates spinning – trying to maintain rigorous safety monitoring and enforce robust Standard Operating Procedures against a backdrop of interruptions throughout the day. One of the most important areas constantly vying for attention is the need to manage complex fleets of portable gas detectors. There is the need to monitor maintenance, calibration and testing for every detector, ensuring it is completely and accurately compliant.

The recent drive for electrification has led to a dramatic increase in the use of Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6).

A dielectric gas, SF6 is used to prevent short circuits and catastrophic incidents within the electrical industry. Despite its desirable electrical insulation properties, SF6 is a highly potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential (GWP) 23,500 times greater than that of CO2.

In a bid to reach targets set to combat climate change, we are seeing a large increase in the number of sustainable forms of energy such as wind, solar and gas. In turn, this has driven an increase of SF6 usage in high voltage applications such as switchgears and circuit breakers. Beside the industrial applications, SF6 is used in medical applications as an ultrasound contrast agent and as a tamponade gas in ophthalmology.
