Composite Materials Manufacturer Partners With Empteezy To Specify A Customised Flammable Liquids Storage Unit

Hereford Glass Fibre was founded in 1986 and began by manufacturing seagoing expedition and sprint racing kayaks. Since then the company has continued to diversify into closed mould technology including resin transfer moulding (RTM) processes, Vacuum Assist Resin Injection (VARI), Vacupress (vacuum closed moulding) and polyurethane foam systems.

Due to the nature of their work, HGF use a range of flammable liquids and resins in the manufacturing processes and because of risks associated with these liquids, they went to the market and sought suppliers with the credentials to provide a fully compliant storage unit to meet their specific requirements, and to that end chose Empteezy.

Following an initial consultation and site survey, it became apparent that HGF would require a customised bunded storage unit that would fully comply with Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) 2002; ensure the liquids and resins are fully bunded when in storage and also satisfy the requirements of their insurance company.

Empteezy’s customised solution included; shelving specifically designed to hold the different sizes of containers used on-site and specialist pipework connection points to allow for the transference of resins from stored IBCs to an external collection point. Over and above the customisation work, the unit was also fitted with explosion relief panels and an earthing kit.

Managing Director, Dillon Muir stated “I am extremely happy with the unit and levels of customisation Empteezy were able to provide, the unit ensures we are working to the highest standards of health and safety when storage flammables.”
